Children of God, I have a word for you today. The word is: “Do Not Sleep!” By this, I do not mean physical sleep. I believe you will understand the statement through the parables of Jesus. Our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, has been speaking in parables to sensitize the hearts of the believers to the kingdom of heaven and the blessings that are there. Notably, at a particular time Christ spoke a parable which is recorded in the Gospel of Matthew:
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also (Matthew 13:24-26 KJV).
This is an important parable that came out of the very mouth of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who loves the whole world and would not want anyone to perish. It is commonly known as ‘The parable of the tares’ to epitomize the worth of people who are the children of the kingdom of heaven as typified by the good seeds but intermingled by the wicked ones being symbolized by the tares. The enemy that sowed the tares is the devil. As children of God, we must not be ignorant of the devices of the devil. His unflagging efforts in these latter days are greater than ever, seeking every avenue to drag those who believe into oblivion. He uses his ‘surgical pincers’ to drop the careless ones into the pit of uncleanness and immorality. Do not sleep!
What Is Sleep?
Imagine that you wanted to visit your friend very early in the morning. As you entered the house, you greeted her and made a move to sit down on a chair. Your friend quickly exclaimed: “No, no, no, the chair is asleep, don’t sit on it!” When you moved to the table to sit there as an alternative, she said further that the table was also asleep. And you tried to lean on the wall and she retorted again: “Please don’t try it! The wall is asleep, too.” Then you wanted to open the door and leave, but to your dismay, your friend interjected still: “Please, don’t touch the door; leave it alone, it’s not woken up yet!”
How would you feel about the whole scenario? You might consider your friend to be insane. You probably would ask her how inanimate objects can fall asleep as she claimed. You would keep wondering how a chair, a table, a wall or a door could be sleeping. Are they ever alive? Is there any breath in them? You would surely know that your friend’s expressions were a mere fantasy.
If you have not been born into the body of Christ, then you are not yet alive in Him. If the seed of Christ is not planted in you, then you are non-existent in the Lord. The question of whether you are spiritually asleep or not does not arise. Yours is spiritual death. Little wonder then if your way of life is that of wickedness, deceit, and infidelity. You are not asleep, you are dead spiritually!
There is remedy for you. Repent of your sins and forsake them. You can bow down your head now and close your eyes in prayer. Call the Lord Jesus Christ with your mouth (consciously call him) and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead. Ask Him to come to your heart now. After your sincere prayer, believe in the miracle of salvation that He has brought to you. He has promised that no one who genuinely comes to Him will be rejected. Begin to walk with God. Buy a complete Bible and start to study the Word of God. You may begin from the Gospel of John. You also need to look around for a place to fellowship with other children of God. If Christ has touched you through this message, share your testimonies with me. In my next message, I will follow this thread to discuss on those who can have the tendency to sleep but should not.

At this time of COVID-19 pandemic, there is tendency for children of God to enter spiritual hibernation. This is the time to be more time-conscious! Jesus Christ may appear any time. Believers, do not let Him meet you unprepared!
